Pastor Jim Dean was born in Kentucky which explains his obsession with UK Wildcat basketball, the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. He moved to the Smoky Mountains out of college. He is married to Lisa Henson Dean. They have two children, Mandi and Jonathan. Jim has served on several church staffs and spent five years as a resort area missionary. In 2005, Jim helped start The Summit. Jim is a graduate of Georgetown College (B.A. in Physical Education), Southwestern Seminary (M.A. in Religious Education) and Drew University (D. Min.). In his free time Jim enjoys backpacking, camping , whitewater rafting and snow skiing.
Minister of Children and Youth
Sheila Gibson received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing degree from WCU in 1995. Sheila received a Master of Divinity Degree with a concentration in Christian Education from Gardner-Webb University in 2011. Sheila was ordained by First Baptist Church in Sylva in 201. She previously served as Minister of Children and Christian Education and Minister of Children and Youth at two churches.
Sheila currently works as a Social Worker at JCDSS. She serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for United Christian Ministries. Sheila loves working with children and youth and believes there is no greater responsibility than to share God's love with them. She also enjoys writing, reading and spending time with her daughter.
Sarah Bose was born and raised in Albany, Oregon. She moved to North Carolina in September of 2014 to continue her work in youth ministry with the Summit Church. She worked for Young Life's middle school ministry for three years before coming here and is very passionate about working with middle and high school age groups. In her free time, she enjoys having coffee dates, reading, and is regularly found sitting on the couches in her favorite coffee shop, Signature Brew. She loves to talk, so feel free to ask her anything!
